  • Biography:

    Niccolò Piacentini was born in Torino, Italy. He obtained his Master’s Degree in Biomedical Engineering from the Politecnico di Torino, Torino, Italy and Politecnico di Milano, Milano, Italy, in 2006 and 2007 respectively. In 2009 he was a visiting Ph.D. student with P. Renaud at the Microsystem Laboratory of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (EPFL), Lausanne, Switzerland, and in 2010 he obtained his Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from the Politecnico di Torino with a thesis about microsystem devices for blood analysis in home chemotherapy. Until 2011 he was a Research Fellow at the same institution, where he designed and developed an innovative medical device for transcranial stimulation. Since November 2011 Dr. Piacentini has been with the Laboratory of Cell Biophysics of the EPFL, where he is involved in the measurement of the cell contractile force by means of microfabricated devices. Apart from the design, development and testing of microsystems for biological applications, his research interests include medical instrumentation, and biomedical signal and image processing and interpretation.
