Biography:
Valentina Agostini was born in Rome, Italy. She received the Italian Laurea in physics summa cum laude from the University of Torino, Torino, Italy, in 1995 and the Ph.D. degree in physics from the Politecnico di Torino, Torino, Italy, in 2002.
Since 2004 she has been with the Department of Electronics and Telecommunications of the Politecnico di Torino, Torino, Italy, as a Research Assistant. She has focused her research interests on medical imaging and biomedical signal processing since 2004. She has worked on the evaluation of the signal-to-noise ratio of infrared image sequences and on motion artifact reduction in breast dynamic infrared imaging. Her current research interests are in statistical gait analysis and static posturography.
Research areas:
Muscle synergy assessment during cyclic and non-cyclic movements
Statistical gait analysis
Multisensory integration in balance control
Machine learning for muscle activation patterns identification during cyclical movements
Effects of bilateral sub-thalamic nucleus deep brain stimulation on gait in patients affected by Parkinson's disease
Ongoing funded projects:
Effects of bilateral subthalamic nucleus deep brain stimulation on motor control strategies of patients affected by advanced Parkinson's disease during dual-task walking (PD-DBS)
