  • Biography:

Marco Ghislieri is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electronics and Telecommunications at Politecnico di Torino, located in Turin, Italy. He started his Ph.D. in Bioengineering and Medical and Surgical Sciences at Politecnico di Torino in 2017. He successfully defended his doctoral thesis titled “Muscle Synergy Assessment during Cyclic and Non-Cyclic Movements: Methodological Issues and Application-oriented Studies” in July 2021. His pioneering work in sEMG acquisition and signal processing has earned him recognition, including the prestigious 2022 Carlo J. DeLuca Award from the International Society of Electrophysiology & Kinesiology (ISEK). Currently, he is focused on researching innovative techniques in neuro-engineering and neural computation.

    Research areas:

  • Muscle synergy assessment during cyclic and non-cyclic movements
  • Effects of bilateral sub-thalamic nucleus deep brain stimulation on gait in patients affected by Parkinson's disease
  • Machine learning for muscle activation patterns identification during cyclical movements
  • Multisensory integration in balance control
  • Monitoring of daily living activities through MIMU system: functional reach to grasp
  • Statistical gait analysis

  • Ongoing funded projects:

  • Objective monitoring of axial symptoms in Parkinson's disease: quantitative assessment in daily life based on the use of wearables, video sensing and artificial intelligence (OMNIA-PARK)
  • Effects of bilateral subthalamic nucleus deep brain stimulation on motor control strategies of patients affected by advanced Parkinson's disease during dual-task walking (PD-DBS)
  • Valutazione oggettiva del legame tra stress e declino cognitivo mediante dispositivi indossabili e algoritmi di AI
